Before August 2016, I had NO EXPERIENCE either hiking, camping, or backpacking. To be clear, I think I had gone on one local hike earlier that summer, I went camping when I was a little girl, but I do not remember any of it, and that is about it. But just to be even more clear, I DID NOT FORGET A SINGLE THING, or at least anything to make me regret it. I think I may NOT have used just two items as well.
August was my first trip to Havasupai Falls in Arizona, and I really had no idea what I was doing. So naturally, I did a lot of research, and asked for a lot of insight.
The trip was a total of four nights. Day one was the traveling day, and night one was spent at the trailhead, so I call them Traveling Day and Night Zero, respectively. Day one we began hiking around 0440 hours and finished about 6-7 hours later. On Day Four, Instead of hiking out, we took the helicopter out (we got super lucky). The group was five of us, three men (experienced hikers), and us two women (no experience whatsoever). Just so that you can get an idea of the circumstances.
So let’s cut to the chase. Here is what I brought with me…

Was it too hot for a sleeping bag? Is that why you preferred a sleeping liner instead?
Hey! Thanks for stopping by š It was totally too hot. I slept in my bra and bikini bottoms and still didn’t get in my sleeping bag. Just left it open. I was also in a tent though with the fly on (for the rain), so I think that added more insulation. I had friends who went in September and only recommended the fleece liner. š
